Thinking Like an Ancient Mesopotamian
You live in one of the villages on the Mesopotamian plains. You must decide on the best way to maintain a complex irrigation system. Which of the following responses do you think will best address this problem? Be sure to have two reasons for your selection. Also, come up with one reason you rejected each of the other options. Minimum of 6 sentences for credit.(Hint – Take a look at Chapter 4 of your History book for help.)
A. Maintain only the canals around your village’s field.
B. Force members of another village to maintain the entire irrigation system throughout the year.
C. Cooperate with other villages to regularly maintain the entire irrigation system.
D. Abandon irrigation and return to collecting and carrying water from the river to the fields.

I will have to use choose C because if we work together their might be a better chance of staying alive and being able to keep a stable food supply.
If we chose to force members of another village to maintain the irrigation system then we have a likely chance of their friends trying to hurt or kill us.
If we chose to abandon irrigation and return to collecting and carrying water from the river to the fields then the whole system might get mest up. If some of us lose our way, don’t bring water back fast enough, or if some people just give up because it is so hard they would die and even maybe us.
If we chose to maintain just the canals we would have to clean them very often because if one canal got clogged up the whole irrigation system would be mest up. Also the water may turn bad for you.

October 29th, 2007 at 7:43 pmOne way to create an irrigation system is by building a wall of tree logs and mud blocks and so in order to get the water we build a hole and so we can get the water we put a ladder so we can get the water.so the water can maintain there for alleast a month and so if the water gets dirty we can make a really big covering out of vines for the water.
I would choose the letter A because I think that I do have to stayb in the same area where I live so I won’t want to later one want to go back and let the little children cry because they would miss the other old place where we used to live at.So I would choose to walk around the whole whole area where we lived at and find some animals and some other kind of food.And look for other kind of stuff on the fields.So I would choose the letter A which says to maintain only the canals around your villages field. That is why I would choose that letter or part.
October 29th, 2007 at 7:57 pmI chose A because it’s easier and less work to do.Another reason is that if i do something wrong it’s my promblem nobody will care.I didn’t choose B because it will be hard to convince other people to do your part.I didn’t choose C because you will be working with other people, and if you do something wrong they will get mad at you.I didn’t choose D because it’s to much work to do.

October 29th, 2007 at 8:42 pmThe best answer for this problem is a:To maintain only the canals around your village’s field.The reason I chose this answer is because we have to share our water and take good care of the canals because if we dont their going to be filled with mud.The reason I didnt choose b,c,and d was because they were not inside the book and also because they didnt say anything about water tubes.Anyways the villages always had to work together.We had to support our villages to remain.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:01 pmI would have chosen C.One because in this way it would be like if they were sort of like all contributing in this to ge3t water all over, and in this way they would be able to blame the group if it messed up on their turn to take care of the water.Another reason is that by connecting all the water supply they6 would all waste the same ammount of water and be able to prevent many floods by using a same ammount of water every day.also it would be like having pipes.I did not choose A because it would have possiby caused more damages when the floods came.I didn’t choose B becausesoon enough you can get attackted by them.I did not pick D because going back is like having to move back to the hills would just be another problem with the water and food shortages.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:19 pmI chose (C.cooperate with other villages to regularly maintain the entire irrigation system)beacause we will be able to get it done and get it done faster.If we weren’t to team up with other villages then we will be stuck or do it but not quick enough.We had to be carful beacause one clogged canal can spoil the entire system.We had to cooperate and depend on each other.The famers were together from miles around by canals.Sice we worked together we developed more communities.

When land is dry they poked holes in the levee. The water flowed through the hole and into the thirsty field. I did not choose B because forcing other members to do your work is bad. I did not pick C because it can leed to fights and hating. i didn’t like D because you will be very tired afte that long walk.

October 29th, 2007 at 9:39 pmI chose c.cooperate with other villages to regularly maintainthe entire irrigation system.I chose c. because if we cooperate with other villages for food, shelter,and more.I also chosre it because if they or we are being attacked they could help us deafeat the enemy.Or if there was a flood they would help us get our village back into order and help us grow our crops back.But iftheir villaged gets destroyed they can come to us and we can form larger communities.
October 29th, 2007 at 9:40 pmI think the best way to maintain a complex irrigation system is to cooperate with other villages to regularly maintain the entire irrigation system.I chose letter C because if no one worked together the canals will get clogged with mud.I also think that if they don’t work togeher the irrigation system will fall apart.I rejected letter A because maintaining only the canals around your village’s field is not enough because if someones canal gets clogged it will ruin the entire system.I rejected letter B because you can’t force members of another village to maintain the entire irrigation system throughout the year.I also rejected letter D because if you abandon irrigation and return to collecting and carrying water from the river to the fields it will take a long time. Also, there might not be a lot of food to eat over the year because the crops are not being irrigated.

I wouldn’t pick d. because how would we become what we are now. I wouldn’t pick c. because how could they get indepentand turn into a big city.
October 29th, 2007 at 11:16 pmI agree with C because the mesopotamian and the other villages could have or did invent a thing or come up with a solution and so they get togather with the other villages and brainstorm ideas so they can fix the problem.Another thing they could have done is they could have build a pipe that suckes a little bit of water at a time so if there was a huge rain the pipe will just get less but the water the pipe is sucking in goes to a house or somewhere so they can get water and grow cropes.I had an idea that the mesopotamian’s could had grow corps a little bit farther than were the water was at so they won’t have a problem.
October 29th, 2007 at 11:25 pmI will carry water from the rivers to the feilds. Because we cant survive with out water. Or I will move down to the lakes or rivers and live there. It will be much easier to grow crops. It will also be easier to take a shower. We wont have to carry the water all the way to the feilds we will live next to it.

October 29th, 2007 at 11:59 pmI think that c is a great way to solve our problem.I think that working with other groups are better way to solve a problem because it will be easier to work it out and you will not have to work as much with a group.I rejected a because it is easier to maintain your thing with a group.I did not pick b because they would not want to be your friends and no friends means no help.D was a pretty nice answer but I did not pick i because you will just get water to drink and what if you do not have any more buckets all of the water will just waist.
October 30th, 2007 at 1:20 amI picked d because it gets water and we get to drink it and it is better and when we need water we have some saved up ones.Water can make you live longer than just food.If you just eat you could choke on the food.I did not pick a because you will just take care of the canals.I did not pick b because then you will not have friends when you need them there.I rejected c because you will have to cooperate with them and if they do not want to do what you please things could go wrong.

If they cooperated with other villages, they would have more people to work with. I didn’t choose D Because if we returned to collecting and carrying water from the river to the fields,that would put work on the Kids. I didn’t choose A either because the people in the village,are very hungry, and that would take days to maintain only the canals around your village’s field. I didn’t choose B because the people and children will risk the chances of being killed,for taking over other peoples irrigation system!

October 30th, 2007 at 10:41 pmI chose (C.cooperate with other villages to regulary maintain the entire irrigation system.)Because we could control the water system so there won’t be a flood to kill our plants.My second reason is so it won’t flood our villages and destroy our houses.I wouldn’t chose D because i doen’t have to carry hevy water back and forth every day.I would not chose A either because i doen’t want other villages to flood either.I would definitely not chose B because i definitely do not want to force other villages to maintain there water system,and we do noy want them to come and destroy our villages.

November 1st, 2007 at 6:42 pmi would make a little man made river that leads to the crops .Similiar to canals.The reason why is we can not be carring bucket by bucket and bucket.we have to have somthing easier than that.That is the reason why they built canals towater thier crop.And to have somthing to drink during breakfast,lunch,and dinner.And for the young ones.

November 8th, 2007 at 8:53 pmim going to choose stable food supple.Sumrians invented two things to help them create a stable food supple.You already know about one of these inventions their complex irrigation systems.The sumerians built networks of canals,dams,and reservoirs to provide thier crops with a regular supply of water.
I chooose that because is better to me then anything alse so thats why i picked it.
I choose c because cooperate with other villages to reagulary maintain the entire errigration system. It makes more sense to do that because it would be easier to maintain a irrigration system.
